Sinopsis

Buku ini dirancang untuk memberikan pemahaman konseptual sekaligus aplikatif mengenai bagaimana budaya memengaruhi perilaku sakit, pilihan pengobatan, serta interaksi antara dokter dan pasien. Sejak kelahirannya sebagai disiplin ilmu, antropologi telah memandang tubuh manusia bukan semata sebagai entitas biologis yang terisolasi, melainkan sebagai suatu kanvas hidup tempat kebudayaan tertulis. Tubuh dipahami sebagai subjek yang menghayati dunia melalui jaringan nilai, simbol, dan relasi kuasa yang melingkupinya. Maka, ketika antropologi menyelami persoalan kesehatan, yang ditelusuri tidak hanya patologi atau gejala klinis, tetapi lebih dalam lagi: bagaimana manusia mengartikan rasa nyeri, ketidaknyamanan, dan penderitaan yang mereka alami. Buku ini dengan konsisten menegaskan bahwa sehat dan sakit pada hakikatnya adalah pengalaman yang dikonstruksi secara sosial-budaya. Namun, di saat yang sama, ia tidak menafikan realitas dasar biologis yang melekat padanya sebuah ketegangan yang justru menjadikan pembahasan ini begitu kaya dan relevan.
Dalam pendidikan kedokteran, antropologi kedokteran berperan penting dalam membentuk kompetensi profesional yang mencakup aspek pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap. Pemahaman mengenai konsep kesehatan budaya, perilaku sakit, dan penggunaan berbagai modalitas pengobatan membantu calon dokter mengembangkan empati, komunikasi efektif, serta kemampuan reflektif dalam menghadapi keberagaman pasien.
Antropologi kedokteran memandang keberagaman sistem pengobatan ini sebagai medical pluralism, yaitu kondisi di mana berbagai sistem medis hidup berdampingan dan digunakan secara bersamaan dalam satu masyarakat. Dalam praktik klinis, pluralisme medis sering tampak pada pasien yang mengonsumsi obat dokter sambil tetap menggunakan jamu atau menjalani terapi alternatif.

Biografi Penulis

Dr. Ibrahim Chalid, M.Si., Universitas Malikussaleh

Dosen tetap Program Studi Antropologi Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Universitas Malikussaleh, Lhokseumawe, Aceh.

Penulis lahir di Beureunuen kota kecil di Pidie, Aceh. Pada tanggal 9 Septerber 1972. Masa kecil hidup di tanah Gayo, Menyelesaikan pendidikan S1 pada Jurusan Antropologi Fisip , Universitas Sumatera Utara tahuan 2000,   melanjutkan S2 pada Jurusan  Antropologi Sosial Universitas Negeri Medan selasai tahun 2011 dan menyelesaikan S3 di Ilmu Sosial Fisip Universitas Airlangga Surabaya pada tahun 2019. Ketika mahasiswa Ibrahim Chalid terlibat aktif dalam berbagai gerakan mahasiswa terutama pada gerakan reformasi tahun 1998, aktif dalam aktivitas kemanusiaan, mendirikan beberapa lembaga swadaya masyarakat seperti Kontas Medan, YPRP (yayasan Pembela Rakyat Pinggiran) dan  (MATA) lembaga Anti Korupsi.

Selama berkarier sebagai dosen Ibrahim Chalid telah mempblikasikan beberapa karya ilmiah diantaraya  Modal Sosial dan Reduksi Kemiskinan Nelayan, Konvergensi Dalam Upaya Pencegahan Stunting di Kabupaten Bireuen.  Transmigrasi: Dari Deferensiasi Menuju Kohesi Sosial,  Etnografi Pemasaran, Gang Leumo: Pengetahuan Masyarakat Aceh di Seputaran Pasar Hewan. Antropologi Kependudukan: Konsep, Teori dan Aplikasi, Etnografi Pemasaran, Enografi Komunikasi, Komunikasi Antar Budaya, Kebijakan Pembangunan Berbasis Kearifan Lokal, Antropologi Gozi  dan lain-lain.
