Sinopsis

Buku Transportation Network Planning and Urban Structure menegaskan bahwa transportasi dan struktur kota merupakan dua elemen yang saling terkait dan tidak dapat dipisahkan. Keduanya berinteraksi secara dinamis dalam membentuk pola ruang, aktivitas ekonomi, serta kualitas hidup masyarakat. Transportasi tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sarana mobilitas, tetapi juga sebagai instrumen utama dalam mengarahkan perkembangan kota. Sebaliknya, pertumbuhan kota turut menentukan kebutuhan dan arah pengembangan sistem transportasi.
Namun, implementasi integrasi antara transportasi dan tata guna lahan masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan, seperti urbanisasi yang tidak terkendali, ketimpangan antarwilayah, krisis lingkungan akibat emisi, serta keterbatasan kelembagaan dan pembiayaan. Berbagai studi kasus menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan pembangunan transportasi tidak hanya bergantung pada infrastruktur, tetapi juga pada keselarasan dengan perencanaan ruang, seperti melalui konsep Transit Oriented Development.
Dalam konteks Indonesia, perencanaan transportasi masih cenderung sektoral dan reaktif. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan perubahan paradigma menuju transportasi sebagai alat pengendali struktur kota yang berkelanjutan, inklusif, dan kompetitif. Buku ini diharapkan menjadi sumber inspirasi dan pijakan awal bagi akademisi, praktisi, dan pembuat kebijakan dalam merancang sistem transportasi yang lebih terintegrasi serta mampu menjawab tantangan masa depan.
