Buku ajar ini disusun sebagai respon terhadap tantangan pembangunan global yang semakin kompleks. Krisis iklim, kerusakan lingkungan, serta ketimpangan sosial-ekonomi telah menunjukkan keterbatasan paradigma pembangunan konvensional. Diperlukan cara pandang baru yang mampu mengintegrasikan ekonomi, teknologi, dan ekologi sejak tahap perencanaan. Ecodesign hadir sebagai paradigma yang tidak hanya berbicara tentang inovasi teknis, tetapi juga tentang filosofi hidup yang menempatkan keberlanjutan sebagai landasan utama pembangunan.
Sebagai buku ajar, karya ini ditujukan untuk mahasiswa, dosen, peneliti, dan praktisi yang memiliki kepedulian terhadap isu keberlanjutan. Buku ini disusun secara sistematis ke dalam dua belas bab yang membahas fondasi konseptual, teori pembangunan, praktik ecodesign di berbagai sektor, isu pembangunan berkelanjutan, hingga prospek, tantangan, dan rekomendasi strategis. Setiap bab dirancang agar pembaca tidak hanya memperoleh pemahaman teoretis, tetapi juga wawasan praktis serta refleksi kritis tentang arah pembangunan masa depan.
