Sinopsis

Istilah kesejahteraan sosial memiliki arti ganda. Pembaca akan berhadapan dengan kerumitan maknanya, tetapi bukan berarti tanpa solusi. Pengertian kesejahteraan sosial dapat dikelompokkan menjadi tiga, yaitu: kesejahteraan sosial sebagai kondisi, kesejahteraan sosial sebagai aktivitas, dan kesejahteraan sosial sebagai ilmu. Ilmu kesejahteraan sosial memiliki orientasi ganda, yang terdiri dari: orientasi akademis, orientasi klinis, dan orientasi strategis. Kesejahteraan sosial bukan hanya merupakan fenomena lokal, tetapi juga nasional dan internasional.

Kegandaan arti, orientasi, dan konteks tersebut berhak mendapat perhatian dari para pemangku kepentingan kesejahteraan sosial agar memperoleh pemahaman yang tepat dan bulat. Jika tidak, implikasinya baik dalam lingkup ilmu maupun lingkup praktik akan menjadi tidak tepat dan tidak bulat pula.

Untuk maksud tersebut, buku ini kiranya layak untuk dibaca oleh civitas academica atau siapa saja yang berminat untuk mempelajari bidang kesejahteraan sosial dan atau memiliki kepedulian terhadap persoalan kesejahteraan sosial. Selamat membaca, dan temukan kebenarannya. Semoga, kita tidak menjadi “penyandang” masalah kesejahteraan sosial!

Biografi Penulis

Mohammad Suud , Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya

Penulis adalah dosen tetap Program Studi Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya, sejak tahun 1992 sampai sekarang. Yang bersangkutan pernah menjabat sebagai Sekretaris Program Studi Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial (2003-2007), Ketua Program Studi Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial (2008-2012), dan sekarang menjabat sebagai Kepala Unit Pelaksana Teknis Mata Kuliah Umum di universitas yang sama.

Yang bersangkutan telah tersertifikasi dalam bidang Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial sejak tahun 2010, aktif melakukan penelitian dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berkaitan dengan fenomena kesejahteraan sosial, menulis artikel di media massa, jurnal ilmiah dan mengikuti seminar yang berskala lokal, nasional, dan sesekali internasional.

Program sarjananya diselesaikan di Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Jember, Jember, dalam Jurusan Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial pada tahun 1990. Program pascasarjananya diselesaikan di Istitute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands, dalam program studi Public Policy and Administration pada tahun 2002. Sementara program doktornya diselesaikan di Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, dalam Program Studi Ilmu-ilmu Sosial pada tahun 2017.

Di sela-sela kesibukannya sebagai dosen, beberapa buku telah ditulisnya. Opini Derita dari dalam Dunia Prostitusi adalah buku kelimanya yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2022. Sebelumnya telah terbit Kontradiksi Spiritualitas: Pengalaman Batin Langgengkan Pelacur Jalanan (2020), Taksonomi Spiritualitas: Menjelajah Dunia Batin Pelacur Jalanan (2010), Love is Blind: Menjaga Cinta Tetap Indah dalam Bayang-bayang Kekerasan (2008), dan 3 Orientasi Kesejahteraan Sosial (2006).
