Dengan menggabungkan perspektif Islam, teori kepemimpinan modern, kajian gender, serta potret nyata kepemimpinan perempuan di institusi pendidikan Asia Tenggara—khususnya Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand Selatan, dan Filipina Selatan—buku ini membongkar mitos lama sekaligus menawarkan kerangka baru yang lebih adil dan kontekstual. Kepemimpinan perempuan tidak diposisikan sebagai ancaman tradisi, melainkan sebagai amanah etis yang sejalan dengan nilai keadilan, musyawarah, dan kemaslahatan dalam Islam.
Lebih dari sekadar membahas “boleh atau tidak”, buku ini mengajak pembaca memahami bagaimana perempuan Muslim menegosiasikan identitas religius, tuntutan profesional, tekanan visibilitas publik, dan legitimasi sosial dalam ruang kepemimpinan. Melalui analisis teoretis yang tajam dan refleksi empiris yang mendalam, pembaca diajak melihat paradoks: perempuan pemimpin dituntut tampil sempurna, namun sering kali dibatasi oleh standar ganda yang tidak dialami laki-laki.
