Synopsis

Buku ajar ini lahir dari sebuah kesadaran mendalam akan pentingnya memahami realitas sosial tidak hanya dari permukaan, tetapi dari akarnya. Di tengah derasnya arus informasi dan data kuantitatif, sering kali kita kehilangan esensi dari pengalaman manusia, makna di balik tindakan, dan konteks yang membentuk budaya. Metodologi penelitian etnografi menawarkan sebuah lensa untuk melihat dunia sosial dengan lebih jernih, lebih dekat, dan lebih manusiawi. Penulisan buku ini didasari oleh urgensi untuk menyediakan panduan yang komprehensif, relevan, dan aplikatif bagi para mahasiswa, peneliti, dan praktisi di Indonesia yang ingin menggali kekayaan konteks lokal dengan pendekatan yang solid secara akademis namun tetap membumi. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk membekali pembaca dengan pengetahuan teoretis dan keterampilan praktis untuk merancang, melaksanakan, dan melaporkan penelitian etnografi yang berdampak dan beretika.

Kehadiran buku ajar “Metodologi Penelitian Etnografi” ini diharapkan dapat menjadi teman seperjalanan bagi para mahasiswa yang menempuh mata kuliah Etnografi, atau bagi setiap orang yang terpanggil untuk menyelami kompleksitas kehidupan sosial dan budaya. Buku ini diharapkan tidak hanya menjadi sumber pengetahuan, tetapi juga pemicu rasa ingin tahu dan keberanian untuk terjun langsung ke lapangan, mendengarkan cerita, mengamati interaksi, melakukan observasi, dan pada akhirnya menyuarakan perspektif mereka yang sering kali tidak terdengar. Semoga setiap halaman dalam buku ini mampu memantik inspirasi dan memberikan panduan yang jelas dalam setiap langkah penelitian.

Author Biographies

I Gde Pitana, Udayana University

Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gde Pitana, M.Sc. adalah Guru Besar dmk Ilmu Pariwisata, Universitas Udayana, dengan homebase di Prodi

Agribisnis, Fak. Pertanian, Univ.Udayana.  Menyelesaikan S3 di  Department of Anthropology, the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia (1993-1998). Dalam kariernya sebagai pegawai negeri, sempat mengabdi di pemerintahan, dengan posisi terakhir sebagai Deputi Menteri bdg Pemasaran, Kemenpar RI (2015-2018). Sebelumnya sempat menjabat sebagai Plt. Dirjen Sejarah dan Purbakala (Dirjen Kebudayaan, 2011-2012); Plt. Dirjen Ekonomi Kreatif Berbasis Iptek dan Desain (2012); Kepala Badan Pengembangan Sumberdaya Budpar (2010- 2015); Direktur Promosi Pariwisata Luar Negeri (2008-2010); Kepala Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kepariwisataan (2005-2008); dan Kepala Dinas Pariwisata Provinsi Bali (2001-2004). Bersama beberapa akademisi, Pitana menjadi Ketua Tim Perjuangan Ilmu Pariwisata, sehingga Ilmu Pariwisata diakui oleh pemerintah (cq Depdikbud) sebagai Ilmu Mandiri (2008), sehingga memungkinkan untuk dibentuknya prodi, jurusan, ataupun fakultas pariwisata yang mengelola pendidikan akademis dari S1 sampai S3. Menulis puluhan buku referensi yang cukup banyak digunakan sebagai pegangan oleh mahasiswa, khususnya dalam bidang Ilmu Pariwisata. Pada tahun 2021, Pitana menjalani proses Dwijati (padiksan), menjadi seorang pendeta Hindu, dengan abhiseka “Ida Pandita Mpu Jaya Brahmananda”.

Studi Agribisnis, Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Udayana. Sejak tahun 2022 hingga sekarang, Classia aktif menulis dan terlibat sebagai editor berbagai buku. Pada tahun 2025, ia baru menerbitkan Buku Ajar

Kewirausahaan. Selain aktif dalam penulisan buku, Classia juga

melakukan berbagai penelitian baik yang didanai dari internal maupun eksternal Universitas Udayana. Saat ini, ia tengah menjalin kerja sama penelitian dengan WRI Indonesia di wilayah Bali. Di samping penelitian, Classia juga secara konsisten melaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat, baik melalui program internal maupun eksternal kampus.
