Sastra tidak pernah hadir sebagai ekspresi estetika semata, melainkan selalu berkelindan dengan realitas sosial, sejarah, dan ideologi pengarangnya. Novel Awlād al-Ghītū Ismī Ādam karya Elias Khoury menunjukkan bagaimana sastra berfungsi sebagai medium kritik terhadap kekuasaan kolonial sekaligus ruang artikulasi pengalaman historis masyarakat Palestina. Buku ini berupaya membaca ideologi pengarang dan relasi kuasa yang membingkai narasi novel tersebut melalui pendekatan sosiologi sastra, dengan memadukan teori ideologi Terry Eagleton dan teori relasi kuasa Michel Foucault.
Pembacaan ini memperlihatkan bahwa ideologi Khoury termanifestasi dalam kritik terhadap kolonialisme dan imperialisme, pemaknaan ingatan kolektif sebagai bentuk perlawanan, serta penolakan terhadap keberlanjutan tragedi Nakbah. Kekuasaan kolonial digambarkan sebagai mekanisme yang menyebar dan produktif, bekerja melalui relasi kekuasaan–pengetahuan, praktik hukum, dan pendisiplinan sosial. Dengan demikian, novel ini menegaskan peran sastra sebagai kritik politik, medium perlawanan simbolik, dan sarana merawat ingatan kolektif dalam konflik Palestina–Israel yang terus berlangsung.
